Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok Urges Strict Compliance with COVID-19 Prevention Guidelines
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, urged strict compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines following the confirmation of COVID-19 cases in three members of a family in Hampyeong.
According to Jeonnam Province on the 1st, Governor Kim said in an emergency announcement, "The three family members confirmed as Jeonnam cases 186, 187, and 188 yesterday are contacts of the 140th confirmed case in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province," adding, "They visited Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province on the 24th to visit the father-in-law in the hospital and stayed for about 20 minutes at the home of the husband’s great-uncle, the 140th confirmed case in Pyeongtaek, where it is presumed they were infected."
He continued, "Recently, small-scale cluster infections have been increasing nationwide, and cluster infections can continue at any time," and urged, "We ask residents to actively cooperate with the compliance measures to block community transmission."
He also emphasized, "If you have cold symptoms, refrain from going out and immediately consult with a public health center or medical institution and get tested," and "Avoid visiting the metropolitan area or regions with recent confirmed cases, and wear masks both indoors and outdoors."
Additionally, he added, "If you have fever or respiratory symptoms, do not participate in events or gatherings, and actively utilize non-face-to-face and contactless events and meetings."
Jeonnam case 186 had frequent sore throat symptoms and was treated four times at medical institutions in Hampyeong from the 27th to the 30th of last month for the same symptoms. The children, Jeonnam cases 187 and 188, also had fever symptoms starting from the 30th of last month.
They were tested after hearing the news of the husband’s great-uncle’s positive diagnosis on the 31st and were confirmed positive. They were admitted to Gangjin Medical Center around 10 p.m. the same day.
Accordingly, testing is underway for a total of 844 people, including 507 staff and students at the elementary school attended by Jeonnam case 187, 90 children at the daycare center attended by case 188, and 247 contacts at medical institutions and academies visited by the confirmed cases. Among them, 423 people tested negative in the first round of testing.
Currently, the province has decided to close not only the daycare center attended by Jeonnam case 188 but also other daycare centers in Hampyeong for two weeks.
The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education has switched the entire grade class of the elementary school attended by Jeonnam case 187 to remote learning until the 13th, and other classes and grades have been switched to remote learning for one week initially.
In addition, all 28 kindergartens, elementary, middle, and special schools in the Hampyeong area will conduct remote classes for one day on the 2nd.
