Andong-si Offers Free Shingles Vaccination for Elderly Basic Livelihood Security Recipients
Individuals Aged 70 and Over Without a History of Shingles Vaccination
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Andong City Public Health Center in Gyeongbuk announced on the 30th that it will provide free shingles vaccinations for basic livelihood security recipients aged 70 and over until the end of the year.
The vaccinations will be administered from November 2nd until the end of the year at the public health center, health branches, and health clinics. Those who have already received the shingles vaccination are excluded from the target group.
The shingles virus is the same virus that causes chickenpox in infancy. Even after chickenpox is treated, the virus does not disappear but remains dormant for a long time in the spinal cord along the nerves in the body, reactivating when immunity weakens.
Early symptoms of shingles include skin pain before rash onset, unilateral band-shaped skin rash, blister formation, and sensory abnormalities. The public health center explained that the incidence of shingles is showing an increasing trend nationwide.
