On this day, the visiting delegation engaged in a heated discussion with researchers from the Korea Institute of Energy Research to explore measures for domestic offshore wind power generation suitable for Jeonnam's conditions.
The Korea Institute of Energy Research is participating in a consortium composed of Jeonnam Province, Mokpo City, and the Green Energy Research Institute for the project "Establishment of an Offshore Wind Power Convergence Industrialization Platform," which aims to build a platform that can support the creation of an 8.2GW offshore wind power complex, a Jeonnam-type win-win job project, and its post-management.
Seo Yong-seok, the center director of the Korea Institute of Energy Research, stated, "To create jobs and secure economic feasibility through the construction of offshore wind power complexes, it is necessary to develop domestically produced wind power components and optimized technology suitable for Korea's climate."
The committee members pointed out that for the success of the largest domestic offshore wind power complex project promoted as a Jeonnam-type win-win job and the construction project of the offshore wind power convergence platform at Mokpo New Port, cooperation with residents and localization of core technologies are essential.
Chairman Lee Hyun-chang said, "There are mixed concerns and expectations regarding the largest domestic offshore wind power project, which is a core project of Jeonnam-type jobs," adding, "Reducing conflicts with related residents such as fishermen and cooperating together is the key to success."
He continued, "In the case of wind power projects, residents and fishermen are concerned about fishing damage and infringements on health and property rights caused by low-frequency noise, and accordingly, conflicts and frictions are occurring in various places."
