Hanbit Unit 5 Reactor Automatically Shutdown...NSSC States "Radiation Levels Normal"
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The reactor of Hanbit Unit 5 automatically shut down at around 10:04 a.m. on the 26th.
The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) announced on the 26th that it received a report from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power that the Hanbit Unit 5 reactor had automatically shut down.
The NSSC stated that it plans to dispatch an incident investigation team composed of experts from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) to investigate the detailed causes.
The NSSC has been conducting follow-up regular inspections on Hanbit Unit 5 since allowing criticality on the 5th.
During the reactor power reduction system operation test, which is a safety verification test for the new steam generator at Hanbit Unit 5, the steam generator water level rose, causing the reactor to shut down.
According to the NSSC, the power plant is currently maintaining a safe shutdown state. Radiation levels inside the plant have also been confirmed to remain at normal levels.
