Say "Real Estate Information Technology" Instead of "Proptech"
'Mega Region' Alternative Term Recommended as 'Super Large Urban Connectivity Zone'
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language recommended on the 26th that the term ‘proptech’ be replaced with the Korean term ‘budongsan jeongbo gisul’ (real estate information technology). They also suggested ‘chogeodae dosi yeon-gyeolgwon’ (super-large urban connection zone) as the Korean alternative for ‘mega region’.
‘Proptech’ is a collective term for information industry technologies used in the real estate sector, such as big data, artificial intelligence, and cryptocurrency. It mainly refers to real estate transactions and lease management conducted via smartphones or the internet. The selection of the alternative term ‘budongsan jeongbo gisul’ reflected survey results. In a public acceptance survey of about 600 people, 97% of respondents answered that it was appropriate.
‘Mega region’ refers to an urban connection zone with a population of over 10 million. It also denotes characteristics such as similar land use patterns and shared history and culture. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Institute of the Korean Language decided on the alternative term ‘chogeodae dosi yeon-gyeolgwon’ at the Saemal Meeting held from the 16th to the 18th.
