September ICT Exports Reach $17.63 Billion... 4 Consecutive Months of Increase... Strong Performance by 'Ban·Di'
Mobile Phone Exports Decline... Trade Surplus of $8.07 Billion
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Last month, exports in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector amounted to $17.63 billion, marking an 11.9% increase compared to the same month last year. The average daily export value was $767 million, a 0.2% decrease from the same period last year.
ICT imports increased by 9% year-on-year to $9.56 billion, and the trade balance recorded a surplus of $8.07 billion.
On the 15th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced these figures in the 'September ICT Export and Import Statistics (Preliminary)'.
By product category, exports increased in semiconductors (11.9%), displays (2.7%), and computers & peripherals (62.7%).
Semiconductors, which account for 54% of total exports, saw overall export growth in both memory ($6.19 billion, up 9.8%) and system semiconductors ($2.85 billion, up 16.8%).
Exports of key items such as DRAM (24.6%), NAND (44.9% up), and foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing, 18.3% up) maintained a strong performance.
Exports by country were as follows: China $8.17 billion (up 5.6%), Vietnam $3.11 billion (up 18%), the United States $2.04 billion (up 36.3%), the European Union (EU) $1.07 billion (up 15.9%), and Japan $340 million (down 9%).
Last month, ICT imports increased by 9% year-on-year to $9.56 billion, with imports of computers & peripherals ($1.09 billion, up 20%) and semiconductors ($4.5 billion, up 15.3%) rising. Imports of mobile phones ($580 million, down 33.8%) and displays ($330 million, down 0.2%) decreased.

By country, imports increased from Taiwan ($1.22 billion, up 24.8%) and Japan ($910 million, up 2.7%), while imports from China ($2.98 billion, down 12.4%), Vietnam ($900 million, down 16.4%), the United States ($590 million, down 14.5%), and the EU ($550 million, down 0.2%) declined.
