Creation of Mini Exhibition Hall in Geoye Redevelopment Area, Songpa-gu
Exhibition of Place Name Origins and Historical Appearances... Planned Expansion to All Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) has created its first mini exhibition hall to permanently preserve and display materials collected during the redevelopment process, aiming to conserve the memories and nostalgia of the original residents in redevelopment areas.
The mini exhibition hall was established in the management office of the apartment complex built within Geoye2 Redevelopment Promotion Zone District 2 (hereafter Geoye2-2 District). Covering an area of 251.51m², visitors can explore the origins of place names and past appearances of the Geoye area through photos, models, and videos collected during the redevelopment process.
Songpa-gu is a planned city established in 1988, currently undergoing redevelopment and reconstruction in 38 locations.
Considering these regional characteristics, the district prepared a dedicated exhibition hall to prevent the disappearance of traces of past lives and the disruption of local history that may occur due to rapid changes in the residential environment.
In particular, the district has made it a condition during the approval of project implementation plans to collect and exhibit materials from the relevant areas to ensure smooth preservation of necessary data.
Accordingly, the associations and construction companies collect and exhibit materials such as photos, videos, models, and building materials from the development areas, while the management office maintains and manages the exhibition space.
The district is responsible for promoting the collected materials by posting them on the district’s official website and other platforms.
Songpa-gu plans to expand the mini exhibition hall project to all redevelopment and reconstruction areas, including Geoye2-1 District (completed in December 2021). Through this, the project aims to go beyond simple data preservation to understand the history of architecture, including changes in housing types, construction methods, and materials, and to utilize the materials as educational resources for understanding urban development processes.
Mayor Park Seong-su of Songpa-gu stated, “Despite the rapidly changing residential environment, we created the mini exhibition hall in redevelopment areas so that residents can live with affection. We hope this first attempt will become a precious space to share the traces and memories of the lives of residents who built today’s Songpa.”
