"Doing Our Best to Provide Disaster Relief Funds to Everyone in Need"
President Moon Jae-in is presiding over a Cabinet meeting at the Blue House on the morning of the 6th.
President Moon Jae-in stated on the 7th, "New Hope Fund payments of up to 2 million won are being provided to small business owners and self-employed individuals who are struggling due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19)," adding, "I hope this will provide some relief amid difficulties and help them maintain their livelihoods."
Through a message on social media that day, President Moon said, "While preparing the supplementary budget, the government has focused above all on swift execution," emphasizing this point.
President Moon explained, "In particular, utilizing public data from the National Tax Service and the National Health Insurance Service to pre-select recipients was effective," adding, "The National Tax Service provided tax information that can verify sales figures to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and the Health Insurance Service provided data to confirm the number of employees, enabling the rapid identification of 2.41 million eligible recipients."
He continued, "As a result, payments were completed for about 1.86 million people, or 76% of the rapid payment recipients, before Chuseok, and by yesterday, payments to approximately 2 million small business owners and self-employed individuals had been completed."
President Moon remarked, "It was very regrettable to see people preparing complicated documents and standing in long lines for emergency loans for small business owners last March, but this is an astonishing change," and evaluated it as "an unprecedentedly fast and efficient administration that no other country can match."
He informed, "Among the rapid payment recipients notified by the government, many have yet to apply and receive payments," and added, "Applications are also being accepted for the New Hope Fund from small business owners in specially affected industries who were not included in the rapid payment recipients."
Furthermore, President Moon stated, "Applications are also being accepted and support provided for the 'Rechallenge Encouragement Fund' for those who have already closed their businesses," emphasizing, "The government will do its best to ensure that disaster relief funds are provided to all those in need."
