The Hapcheon Residents' Countermeasures Committee (Co-Chairmen Lee Jong-cheol and Kwon Young-sik) was launched to compensate the residents of Hapcheon-gun who suffered flood damage last month in 17 towns and townships.
They began by visiting Hapcheon Water Resources Corporation to protest, followed by visits to the Nakdong River Flood Control Office, and the damage-affected areas of Yongdam Dam and Seomjin River Dam, including Okcheon-gun in Chungbuk and Namwon-si in Jeonbuk.
They also decided to jointly respond by demanding acknowledgment of responsibility for the discharge damage and full compensation for the damages, and started activities to receive compensation for dam discharge damages.
They directly went to the site during visits by Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun to Hadong and Gurye-gun, to raise awareness of the severity of the flood damage suffered by Hapcheon-gun.
The Dam Management Investigation Committee formed by the Ministry of Environment has not acknowledged the damages, and the residents are moving quickly by proposing the formation of a dam management investigation committee that includes residents from the affected areas.
