Seoul Village Award goes to Ryoo Eun-moo, Gasan-dong Resident Autonomy Chairman... Seoul Community Award Activity Category, Village Community Media 'Radio Geumcheon' Selected... Seoul Community Award Space Category, Complex Cultural Space Neighborhood Bookstore 'One Table' Selected
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) achieved the great feat of winning awards in all categories of the Seoul Village Award and Seoul Community Award at the award ceremony held on the 24th, marking the ‘2020 Seoul Village Week’ which shares the performance of village community activities throughout the year.
The ‘Seoul Village Award’ and ‘Seoul Community Award’ are awards established by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to discover citizens, organizations, gatherings, and spaces that have worked hard to realize village communities, share the achievements and cases of village communities, and encourage their activities.
The Seoul Village Award was honored to be received by Ryu Eun-mu, the head of the resident autonomy committee in Gasan-dong. Ryu Eun-mu is a dedicated village worker who has devotedly worked for the stable operation of the resident autonomy committee by going beyond the annual resident autonomy committee projects, establishing mid- to long-term development plans, and promoting the pilot operation of the resident autonomy committee secretariat.
In the ‘Activity category’ of the Seoul Community Award, ‘Radio Geumcheon,’ the representative village community media of Geumcheon-gu, won the award. ‘Radio Geumcheon’ started in 2012 as a small podcast delivering village news and has established itself as the representative village media of Geumcheon-gu, delivering big and small news of the neighborhood.
In the ‘Space category’ of the Seoul Community Award, the neighborhood bookstore ‘One Table,’ which operates as a play space for neighborhood children and a gathering space for neighborhood elders, was selected. ‘One Table’ started in 2015 with a small table and operates as a complex cultural space providing opportunities for cultural enjoyment to children and seniors, who are culturally marginalized groups.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “This award is a valuable recognition to find, highlight, and encourage the hidden workers who strive to revitalize village communities throughout the neighborhood,” and added, “We will continue to work with residents to make Geumcheon-gu a resident-centered autonomous city where village democracy breathes.”
