According to CNN and other foreign media on the 26th (local time), Christopher Michael Straub (38), known as a member of a white supremacist criminal organization in the United States, was shot and killed by police in Templeton, California. According to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office in California, Straub got out of his car and fled when police attempted a traffic stop on the 24th, then hid in a nearby vineyard and fired a handgun at the police.

Straub died at the scene from the shootout, and one police officer was injured by gunfire and transported to a local hospital. The Sheriff's Office stated that they found four assault rifles, one hunting rifle, one shotgun, two handguns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in Straub's car. The Sheriff's Office also reported that Straub was a violent white supremacist criminal with 28 prior incarcerations and had recently been under investigation for illegal weapons manufacturing.
