[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon National University (President Ko Young-jin) announced that on the 25th at around 10 a.m., it held the ‘Industry-Academia Cooperation Center Opening Ceremony and Family Company Launch Ceremony’ at the Industry-Academia Cooperation Building of Suncheon National University, inviting Suncheon City, local industry-academia-research institutions and family companies, university administrative professors, and Development Support Foundation officials.
The Suncheon National University Industry-Academia Cooperation Center was completed on December 30 last year after investing 15.4 billion KRW to integrate and operate the human and material support infrastructure necessary for industry-academia cooperation, starting with the groundbreaking ceremony in November 2017.
The Industry-Academia Cooperation Center is a building with one basement floor and seven above-ground floors, equipped with a multipurpose auditorium, conference rooms, and an ICT multi-learning room. Currently, 12 companies including the Employment Support Center, Jeollanam-do funded investment companies, and animation companies are housed there.
In the future, business lounges such as smart conference rooms for video conferencing and non-face-to-face industry-academia cooperation consultations will also be established.
To practice social distancing due to COVID-19, the opening ceremony was held with fewer than 50 participants, including Suncheon City Deputy Mayor Lim Chae-young, Suncheon City Council Chairman Heo Yoo-in, and family company representatives. The event featured congratulatory speeches, an introduction to the family company system and its operation plan, and the operation plan for the Industry-Academia Cooperation Education Center, introducing the key future projects of Suncheon National University’s Industry-Academia Cooperation Group.
Additionally, a promotional hall was operated focusing on representative operational achievements of industry-academia cooperation, including Jeollanam-do funded investment companies, Suncheon City funded research institutions, regional innovation hubs, resident companies and centers, technology transfer companies, professor start-ups, and start-up support companies.
On the same day as the Industry-Academia Cooperation Center opening ceremony, the family company launch ceremony was also held. Suncheon National University’s Industry-Academia Cooperation Group operates various industry-academia cooperation programs with 587 family companies through the ‘Family Company’ system, which shares human and material resources based on empathetic education and research cooperation between the university and companies.
President Ko Young-jin of Suncheon National University said in his welcoming address, “With the opening of the new Industry-Academia Cooperation Center as a milestone, our university’s Industry-Academia Cooperation Group will strive to establish an organic cooperative relationship with local industries through more activities in the field of industry-academia cooperation. At the same time, we will discover and operate various industry-academia cooperation programs to drive corporate growth and help resolve local employment issues through job creation.”
