[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Jinsoo Lee, CEO of Kakao Page, emphasized that "South Korea must take the lead in the global market as the origin country, especially in webtoons and web novels."
At the 'Digital New Deal Cultural Content Business Strategy Report Meeting' hosted by President Moon Jae-in on the 24th, CEO Lee stated, "For the content IP (intellectual property) business model to succeed, it is important to build a global platform network that can supply strong K-stories to the world every day."
Kakao Page was introduced as a leading company in strengthening cultural content competitiveness in the global market on the same day. President Moon mentioned Kakao Japan's webtoon platform 'Piccoma,' saying, "It has created a successful case of simultaneous entry of our webtoons and platform."
At the event, CEO Lee explained, "Kakao Page's vision is to build a 'global Silk Road' so that Korean webtoon and web novel IPs can be valued and consumed worldwide, across all languages."
He added, "Developing and spreading original story IPs is the essence of Kakao Page's business and the most important strategy for building a global platform."
Regarding the success of Kakao Page works such as 'Itaewon Class,' consumed by 16 million people, and 'Solo Leveling,' which ranked first in Japan, CEO Lee said, "It is because these are verified stories chosen by readers," emphasizing, "Webtoons and web novels are important industries that generate infinite added value as source IPs for dramas, movies, games, and animations."
