Shin Sujeong, Gwangju City Council Member, Hosts 'Discussion on Improving Working Conditions for Hospital and Clinic Staff'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Shin Su-jeong, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council (Democratic Party, Buk-gu 3), held a "Discussion Forum for Improving the Working Environment of Small-scale Hospital and Clinic Workers in the Gwangju Area" on the 24th in collaboration with the Gwangju Metropolitan City Non-regular Workers Support Center.
The forum was chaired by Shin Su-jeong, Chairperson of the Environment and Welfare Committee of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, and featured a presentation by Oh Chang-min, Director of the Economic Community Deoham, on the "Labor Conditions Survey of Small-scale Hospital and Clinic Workers in the Gwangju Area." Discussants included Lim Jin-seok, Director of the Health Policy Division of Gwangju Metropolitan City, Gil Gwang-chae, Vice President of the Gwangju Medical Association, Yoon Nam-sook, Secretary General of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Nursing Assistant Association, and Kim Cheol-hong, Organization Director of the Public Transport Union Gwangju-Jeonnam Headquarters.
The "Labor Conditions Survey of Small-scale Hospital and Clinic Workers in the Gwangju Area" discussed that day received responses from 303 workers in small-scale hospitals and clinics in Gwangju Metropolitan City, of whom 287 (94.7%) were women, indicating that most workers in small-scale hospitals and clinics are female.
By occupation, nursing assistants were the largest group with 185 respondents (61.1%), followed by dental hygienists with 61 (20.1%), and nurses with 14 (4.6%).
Small-scale hospital and clinic workers reported low job satisfaction and identified the most needed improvements as "wage increases and the guarantee and activation of vacation and leave systems."
