Gwangyang-si Secures 10.2 Billion KRW in National Funding for Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Construction Project
Providing User Safety and Convenience through Traffic Congestion Improvement
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City plans to invest a total of 17 billion KRW over two years (2021?2022), with 10.2 billion KRW (60%) from national funds and 6.8 billion KRW (40%) from local funds, to improve traffic flow at frequently congested intersections and road sections, enhance safety at high-accident locations, and expand real-time disaster and emergency situation management and information services.
Additionally, a traffic information center that collects, processes, and provides real-time traffic information and safely operates and manages traffic conditions will be newly established on the 6th floor of the community center. After completing the necessary administrative procedures, the project will commence in the first half of next year and is scheduled for completion in December 2022.
In particular, the city is concurrently promoting the establishment of a mid- to long-term basic plan (10 years) for the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). To prepare for real-time traffic control in response to disasters and emergencies, customized systems such as CCTV for traffic information collection, Variable Message Signs (VMS), smart intersections in congested areas, incident detection systems, Bus Information Management System (BIMS), and parking management systems will be introduced to enhance synergy effects with tourism revitalization projects and urban regeneration projects.
