Korea Airports Corporation Holds 'AI Sign Language Guidance' Demonstration at Gimpo Airport
Year-end Pilot Operation at Gimpo Airport... To Be Applied at Jeju Airport in 2023
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Je-hoon] Korea Airports Corporation announced on the 23rd that it held a demonstration of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based sign language guidance system at the domestic terminal of Gimpo Airport in celebration of the World Sign Language Day designated by the UN.
The sign language guidance system demonstrated that day is being jointly developed by the corporation and the Korea Electronics Technology Institute. It applies AI-based deep learning technology to collect sign language data from the hearing impaired and implements sign language recognition and a user-based interface (UI) to enable hearing-impaired individuals to easily use airport facilities.

The corporation plans to upgrade the functions and performance of the sign language guidance system demonstrated that day and conduct a pilot operation at Gimpo Airport in December. Additionally, in preparation for the 2023 World Deaflympics in Jeju, the system will be installed and operated at Jeju Airport.
