Chinese Expert: "China Also Unlikely to Avoid Second Wave of COVID-19"
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunbyeol Kim] China, where the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has subsided, is also expected to be unable to avoid a second wave this winter.
On the 21st, according to China's state-run Global Times and others, Jang Wonhong, head of the COVID-19 treatment expert team in Shanghai and chief of the Infectious Diseases Department at Fudan University, stated in a lecture at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, "Since August 16, no new confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in mainland China, but a second wave of the COVID-19 outbreak in China is inevitable."
He said, "We need to plan for at least one year," adding, "As some European countries such as France and Spain are experiencing a second wave of COVID-19, the virus will also resurge in China this winter."
Professor Jang explained that China is currently at risk of overseas re-importation of COVID-19, stating, "Recently, the Chinese government sent inspection teams to each province to check the COVID-19 prevention system to prevent widespread overseas re-importation."
