[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) signed a public-academic cooperation business agreement on the 18th at Dojeonsuk 12th branch with six local universities (Korea University, Kookmin University, Dongduk Women’s University, Seokyeong University, Sungshin Women’s University, Hansung University).
Through this, the district aims to overcome the worst situation of regional economic deterioration and rising youth unemployment caused by COVID-19 social distancing and to revive the stagnant local atmosphere.
Seongbuk-gu is known as the district with the largest number of universities among autonomous districts, rich in excellent human resources, and is considered a place with very high development potential.
Also, recently, the Hongneung area was designated as a ‘Small Giant Research and Development Special Zone,’ and through the signing of the public-academic cooperation MOU, it is a region simultaneously pursuing the development of new growth industries and job creation in related fields.
As the first project, in connection with university startup support groups, the supply volume of ‘Dojeonsuk,’ which was provided to one-person creative enterprises, will be expanded and opened to university (graduate) students preparing for startups in the second half of this year, thereby reducing housing cost burdens and allowing them to focus on startup activities by providing both residential and office spaces.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “We expect this business agreement to create a positive synergy by combining the excellent human resources of six local universities with the infrastructure of Seongbuk-gu in line with the government’s Korean New Deal policy. Furthermore, we will do our best to revitalize the local community through job creation and economic activation.”
