Naju-si Selected as an 'Excellent City' in the Government Joint Evaluation
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yuk-bong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 18th that it achieved 5th place in the province this year in the government joint evaluation, rising 5 ranks compared to last year.
The city secured practical benefits including a 'Excellent City' title, which signifies a top rank in this joint evaluation, along with 115 million KRW in Jeollanam-do budget for prize money and awards.
The government joint evaluation, hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, annually assesses the performance of delegated national tasks and major national policy achievements conducted over the past year in 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide, according to the Government Work Evaluation Basic Act.
The evaluation applies 122 standard indicators related to participation and achievement levels of each local government in major national projects aimed at achieving the five major national policy goals, including balanced regional development.
Based on the evaluation results of metropolitan cities and provinces, the city was found to have achieved targets in 50 out of 63 quantitative indicators in the performance evaluation of 22 cities and counties conducted by Jeollanam-do.
In particular, achievements were recognized as excellent qualitative evaluation cases in areas such as ▲ revitalization of workplace sports teams ▲ implementation of the 'Culture Day' policy ▲ efforts by metropolitan governments to adapt to climate change ▲ improvement of working conditions for sanitation workers ▲ fostering and support of women farmers.
Additionally, policies closely related to residents' lives such as ▲ support for out-of-school youth ▲ creation of jobs for the elderly ▲ gender impact assessment policy improvements ▲ regional price stabilization management ▲ treatment of new tuberculosis patients ▲ tracking and management of overseas arrivals also received favorable reviews.
The city is conducting monthly performance checks by indicator through report meetings to improve joint evaluation results, while also focusing on strengthening public officials' capabilities for national agenda implementation and discovering excellent qualitative indicator cases.
