Installation of Autumn Flower Hanging Pots on Siheung-daero, Geumcheon-gu
Using Flower Pots to Promote Social Distancing and Resolve Daily Civil Complaints
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) welcomed autumn by removing the spring street flower pots from 14 central lane bus stops along Siheung-daero, a major arterial road in the district, and installing 380 hanging flower pots with autumn flowers.
The pots were planted in two layers with blue-toned Wave Petunia (Lavender Sky Blue, Silver) and red-toned Begonia, designed to symbolize "noble sacrifice and patience (blue flowers)" amidst COVID-19, from which "intense hope (red flowers)" blooms.
Additionally, during the removal of the previous flower pots, the annual flowers in the pots were not discarded but repurposed by workers from the Hope Job Project "Green New Deal Urban Forest Care" into flower pots, creatively recycled with various ideas.
The recycled flower pots were placed at benches and pergolas where many people sit, spaced apart to naturally encourage social distancing even outdoors.
Furthermore, flower pots were installed in alleys plagued by illegal garbage dumping and persistent civil complaints, preventing littering and revitalizing the neighborhood.
