Gwangju Bank Delivers 'Support Packages' to Local Medical Professionals
Additional Production Worth 50 Million Won Following Previous Delivery by Jeonnam Province
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Bank (President Song Jong-wook) announced on the 17th that it delivered 1,000 support packages worth 50 million won to local medical personnel who are dedicating all their efforts to fighting COVID-19.
The delivery ceremony was attended by Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, Song Jong-wook, President of Gwangju Bank, and Park Heung-seok, Chairman of the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the Korean Red Cross, among others.
The day before, Gwangju Bank delivered 1,000 support packages to Jeonnam Province and produced an additional 1,000 packages to be delivered to infectious disease-dedicated hospitals and screening clinics in the Gwangju area.
The “support package” is a box of support items independently prepared by Gwangju Bank through volunteer activities, with President Song Jong-wook and about 40 executives and employees personally assembling them, to convey gratitude and messages of encouragement to medical staff working hard on the front lines to overcome COVID-19 during the upcoming Chuseok holiday.
The packages consist of a total of 17 types of support items, including agricultural products and red ginseng from Naju and Jangheung in Jeonnam, health foods such as vitamins, snacks, instant foods, and mask packs and hand creams to alleviate the difficulties of medical staff who must continuously wear protective suits.
Song Jong-wook, President of Gwangju Bank, said, “We hope that the sincere gratitude of Gwangju Bank’s executives and employees will be well conveyed to the medical staff who are dedicating themselves on the front lines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection and that it will provide some strength.” He added, “As the representative bank of Gwangju and Jeonnam, we will take the lead in various social contribution activities and financial support for mutual growth with the region, pursuing values beyond profit.”
Meanwhile, to overcome the difficulties faced by the region due to COVID-19 together, Gwangju Bank prioritized supporting 30,000 masks each to Gwangju Metropolitan City and Jeonnam Province, donated emergency relief funds of 400 million won and 300 million won respectively, and provided 10 million won each to Mokpo, Suncheon, Yeosu, and Naju.
In addition, to help vulnerable groups affected by COVID-19, the bank’s executives and employees voluntarily raised funds to produce 700 emergency relief boxes consisting of 19 items such as masks, hand wash, and food, which were directly delivered to vulnerable groups and medical staff.
Furthermore, last month, to assist flood victims in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions caused by heavy rains, the bank directly produced 1,300 emergency relief boxes called “Love Packages,” consisting of 18 items including instant foods and hygiene products, delivering 500 boxes to Gwangju Metropolitan City and 800 boxes to Jeonnam Province.
Additionally, Gwangju Bank contributed 1 billion won each to the Gwangju Credit Guarantee Foundation and Jeonnam Credit Guarantee Foundation, and 500 million won to the Korea Technology Finance Corporation to practice win-win management with local small business owners. The bank also implemented special funding support, providing up to 500 million won per company for a total of 400 billion won in special support to local small and medium-sized enterprises and individual business owners engaged in travel, accommodation, and food service industries.

As of the end of last month, the financial support provided by Gwangju Bank to self-employed and small business owners affected by COVID-19 amounted to 15,615 cases and 728.7 billion won.
