Chinese SMIC Requests US Government Approval to Supply Semiconductors to Huawei
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo Yoo-jin] China’s largest semiconductor foundry SMIC has submitted an application to U.S. authorities requesting permission to continue supplying semiconductors to Huawei.
According to local Chinese media on the 16th, SMIC stated in a press release, "SMIC will strictly comply with U.S. laws and regulations," adding, "In accordance with the regulations, we have already submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Commerce to continue supplying products to Huawei."
Although the Chinese government strongly opposed the U.S. sanctions on Huawei as unfair, the Chinese company SMIC decided not to engage in transactions with Huawei until receiving approval from the U.S. government, fearing the consequences of violating the sanction regulations.
