[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Shinzo Abe, who led the longest-serving cabinet in Japanese history, received a bouquet from the Prime Minister's Office staff before leaving the Prime Minister's residence on the 16th, waving his hand widely and bowing in greeting. Citing his chronic illness, ulcerative colitis, he announced his resignation on the 28th of last month and officially resigned at an extraordinary cabinet meeting that morning. Abe's total days in office amount to 3,188 days, including his first term (September 2006 to September 2007, 366 days) and his second term starting from December 2012, making him the longest-serving prime minister in Japanese history. His consecutive days in office during the second term also set a record at 2,822 days.
