Gwangju City Selected for Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Urban Regeneration Recognition Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 16th that the ‘Kkodume, Creating a Happy Village Full of Fragrance’ project in Sansu-dong, Dong-gu, which transforms a collapsed building in a residential area into a community center, has been selected for the 2020 Urban Regeneration Recognition Project competition hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
The Urban Regeneration Recognition Project is a system that provides government support such as financial aid and funds without requiring an activation plan for living SOC projects promoted within strategic planning areas, supporting point-based areas that face practical constraints in implementing Urban Regeneration New Deal projects.
The selected ‘Kkodume, Creating a Happy Village Full of Fragrance’ project involves constructing the ‘Kkodume Complex Community Center’ by investing 5 billion KRW, including 2.4 billion KRW in national funds, to rebuild a dangerous building that collapsed during construction and had been abandoned for several years.
The Kkodume Complex Community Center is planned to be developed as a resident-friendly leisure facility including a village sarangchae (community hall), health promotion center, and community flower healing garden. Along with establishing village governance, revitalizing the community, and forming cooperatives, the project is expected to create jobs and meet the residents’ long-standing demands for convenient living facilities that were previously lacking.
