Busan Gijang-gun Out-of-School Youth 'Thumbs Up'... All Passed the GED Exam
Gijang-gun Kkumdeulim, 103 Challengers in 2020 Including 95 High School Graduates and 8 Middle School Graduates Achieve 'All Kill'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] All 103 ‘out-of-school youth’ in Gijang-gun, Busan who challenged the qualification exam passed.
‘Gijang-gun Dream,’ the out-of-school youth support center in Gijang-gun, is celebrating the achievement of all examinees passing the 2020 qualification exam.
The first exam was held on May 23, and the second exam on August 22, with 103 youths affiliated with Gijang-gun Dream taking the challenge. Ninety-five took the high school equivalency exam, and eight took the middle school equivalency exam.
The overall scores were also good. The average score was 79.65 points, up 6.33 points from 73.32 points in 2019, and 31 people scored above 90 points on average.
Despite being greatly restrained due to COVID-19 and the reluctance toward face-to-face education making learning management difficult, they achieved commendable results.
A Gijang-gun Dream Center official said, “Due to changes in the exam schedule caused by COVID-19, managing learning was very difficult, but good results came from the youths’ autonomous learning and use of online lectures.”
He added, “We applaud the youths who produced good results despite difficult circumstances.”
The Dream Center plans to focus on building a non-face-to-face learning environment in 2021 in preparation for the post-COVID era. They also plan to support the children so they can grow without discrimination despite being ‘out-of-school.’
