Office for Government Policy Coordination Holds '2020 Cheongnyeon Policy Conference'... Establishing Basic Plan for Youth Policy
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] The Youth Policy Promotion Team of the Office for Government Policy Coordination announced on the 15th that it will hold the '2020 Youth Policy Conference' from the 16th to the 19th to commemorate Youth Day.
Youth Day is a legally designated commemorative day established under the Youth Basic Act (enacted in February 2020), with events such as commemorative ceremonies, policy fairs, and talk concerts.
The 2020 Youth Policy Conference, themed "Together, Establishing the Basic Youth Policy Plan," was organized to gather diverse voices from youth and experts regarding the vision, goals, and sector-specific policy directions to be included in the first Basic Youth Policy Plan.
The Basic Youth Policy Plan is a national plan formulated every five years according to the Youth Basic Act and is reviewed and finalized by the Youth Policy Coordination Committee.
To establish the first Basic Youth Policy Plan, research services and a private advisory group were operated to draft a preliminary plan, and expert meetings by sector such as employment, education, housing, welfare, and participation have been conducted.
Over four days, four sessions covering the general youth policy, housing and welfare, employment and education, and participation and rights will be held, featuring keynote presentations and discussions on sector-specific policy directions and implementation tasks.
The first session, titled "Let's Set the Future Direction of Youth Policy!", will explore the significance of national youth policy promotion and seek the vision and direction of policies in response to future economic and social changes.
The second session, titled "Youth Housing and Welfare Policy, Finding the Blind Spots," will present priorities for policy targets and directions to strengthen inclusiveness, and seek ways to resolve policy blind spots in implementation and operation.
The third session, titled "Employment and Education, the Gap Between Youth and Policy," will diagnose the employment and education policies implemented so far from the youth perspective and discuss highly perceptible policy measures and ways to link education and employment.
The fourth session, titled "Youth Participation and Rights, What Should We Do?", will propose effective delivery systems for youth policy, directions for public-private cooperation in policy governance, and discuss active youth participation and roles in policy.
This conference will be held online to broadly collect opinions, reflecting the digital-friendly characteristics of youth.
