Korea Railroad Cracks Down on Online Ticket Scalping Ahead of Chuseok
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Korea Railroad has launched an active crackdown on online ticket scalping ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
Korea Railroad has decided to request investigations into suspects suspected of illegal transactions who unfairly secure train tickets using macro programs and sell them at a premium.
A macro program is a program that automatically and repeatedly performs multiple processes.
Until now, it was difficult to punish the act of purchasing train tickets using macro programs, but this is based on a legal interpretation that punishment is possible under the current legal system, such as for obstruction of business.
Accordingly, Korea Railroad plans to request an investigation by the Railroad Judicial Police Unit if suspicious cases of preempting Chuseok train tickets using macro programs are discovered this year. They have already conducted a focused analysis of train ticket purchase histories from the last Lunar New Year and requested investigations into seven suspected illegal transaction cases, and police investigations are currently underway.
Korea Railroad has developed a big data platform that can monitor abnormal train ticket transactions and established a system to extract suspected cases of macro usage through data analysis.
Korea Railroad plans to provide train discount coupons or free exchange tickets to customers who report scalping transactions in order to eradicate illegal ticket trading.
