Korea Federation of SMEs Listens to On-Site Voices in Busan

On the 15th, Choi Geumsik, Chairman of the Busan Shipbuilding and Marine Equipment Industry Cooperative, said this at the 'Meeting to Resolve Difficulties in the Shipbuilding Industry' held at Lotte Hotel Busan, adding, "Support for the construction of a smart complex logistics center (2nd joint logistics center) to reduce costs for shipbuilding and marine equipment companies is also necessary."
The meeting was organized by the Korea Federation of SMEs to listen to the on-site difficulties of the shipbuilding industry. Twelve people attended, including Kim Gimu, Chairman of the Korea Federation of SMEs, Kim Seongtae, Chairman of the Korea Shipbuilding Industry Cooperative, Kim Gwidong, Chairman of the Korea Ship Repair Industry Cooperative, and Chairman Choi Geumsik.
The attendees shared opinions to resolve the difficulties faced by the shipbuilding industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic and prolonged recession.
Chairman Kim Seongtae said, "Support should be provided for the establishment of the Korea Small and Medium Ship Design Research and Development Institute (tentative name) to enhance the technological competitiveness of the small shipbuilding industry."
The shipbuilding industry proposed 11 urgent tasks, including ▲ measures to enhance the technological competitiveness of the small shipbuilding industry ▲ ship order support to resolve the shortage of work in the shipbuilding and marine equipment industry ▲ support for the construction of a smart complex logistics center to reduce costs for shipbuilding and marine equipment companies ▲ formulation of focused policies for fostering the ship equipment industry ▲ support for fostering the new construction, repair, and remodeling industry of small vessels.

Kim Gimu, Chairman of the Korea Federation of SMEs, said, "I visited Busan to listen to the difficulties of the shipbuilding industry," emphasizing, "Since being designated as a special employment support industry in 2016 and extended four times until the end of this year, despite the difficult environment, government interest and support for the shipbuilding industry, which is striving to create a turning point, are necessary."
