The 55th National Skills Competition Held in Jeonbuk from 14th to 21st... 1,778 Participants
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The '55th National Skills Competition' will be held for eight days from the 14th at seven venues across Jeonbuk, including the Gunsan Saemangeum Convention Center.
Co-hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, Jeollabuk-do Province, and the Jeollabuk-do Office of Education, and organized by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea and the Jeollabuk-do Skills Competition Committee, this event features 1,778 competitors across 50 categories such as industrial robots and IT network systems. The competition will take place from the 14th to the 21st in four cities/counties: Jeonju, Gunsan, Iksan, and Wanju.
This year, considering the severe situation due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the scale of the competition has been minimized to focus on the events. A joint quarantine system among related organizations has been established, and strict adherence to quarantine guidelines will be ensured during the event.
The main events of the competition, including the opening and closing ceremonies and award ceremonies, will be conducted online in a non-face-to-face format, and the entire process will be broadcast live through online media (YouTube channels, etc.) and vocational broadcasting channels.
The dedicated website for the Skills Competition and YouTube will provide guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19 and offer real-time updates on the competition status.
This year's competition is held under the slogan "Millennial Jeonbuk Opening the Future, Blossoming with Technology." It aims to cultivate excellent skilled technical talent, raise nationwide interest in skilled technology, and present a vision for skilled technology in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the digital era.
Since the first competition in 1966, the Skills Competition has produced over 290,000 prospective skilled technicians over the past 55 years, contributing to South Korea's establishment as a world-leading technological powerhouse through the enhancement of skill levels and the nurturing of skilled technicians.
Prize money of 12 million KRW (gold), 8 million KRW (silver), and 4 million KRW (bronze) will be awarded to winners. Additionally, winners will qualify to participate in the national selection for the 46th International Skills Olympics to be held in September 2021, and receive benefits such as exemption from the practical exam for the national technical qualification of industrial engineer.
Lee Jae-gap, Minister of Employment and Labor, said, "Although many citizens are facing difficulties due to COVID-19, I hope that through this competition, the athletes can fully demonstrate the skills they have honed and provide hope to the public."
