View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Shin Dong-geun, a Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 11th regarding the issue of mass layoffs at Eastar Jet, "Since a member of our party's National Assembly is the founder of Eastar Jet, we must respond to this situation with a responsible attitude."
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Shin said, "With Jeju Air's acquisition of Eastar Jet falling through, 605 employees have been notified of mass layoffs. Active measures from the government and the ruling party are necessary."
The founder of Eastar Jet is Lee Sang-jik, a Democratic Party lawmaker. This is the first official mention of the Eastar Jet issue at the leadership level of the ruling party.
Shin emphasized, "The motto of the Moon Jae-in administration and the Democratic Party is a society where labor is respected," adding, "President Moon also said that protecting jobs amid the COVID-19 economic crisis is key to overcoming the national crisis."

He continued, "Eastar Jet currently has 25 billion won in unpaid wages and 500 million won in overdue employment insurance premiums, making it unable to receive employment retention support funds," and added, "If there is a will to prevent mass layoffs, even if not 100% satisfied, a reasonable solution can be found."
