According to Gyeongbuk Province and Pohang City on the 11th, a man in his 50s, Mr. A, and a woman in her 60s, Ms. B, visited Gwangju Metropolitan City together on the 5th for business and came into contact with Gwangju case number 445.
The two stopped by Busan on the 6th before returning to Pohang, where they began showing cold symptoms such as diarrhea and sore throat. Meanwhile, they were notified that an acquaintance they met in Gwangju had tested positive, and upon visiting the Pohang Nam-gu Public Health Center screening clinic on the 9th, they were confirmed positive.
As of midnight on the 11th, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Pohang has risen to 63, and the total for Gyeongbuk Province has reached 1,441. Pohang health authorities have assigned dedicated public officials to each of them to conduct in-depth epidemiological investigations and additional contact tracing.
A Pohang city official stated, "It appears that community transmission from other regions has officially begun," and appealed, "Please refrain from inter-regional travel, gatherings, or events, especially in areas where infections have occurred, and strictly adhere to personal hygiene guidelines."
Meanwhile, on the 9th, among 21 foreign crew members of the Panama-flagged raw material carrier Odyssey (105,000 tons) docked at Pohang New Port, five Filipino crew members tested positive for COVID-19 and were transferred to Andong Medical Center and other facilities. They were not included in the confirmed case count for Pohang City, Gyeongbuk Province.
