FreshEasy Targets Ready Meal Market with Launch of Frozen Fried Rice
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Fresh Easy announced on the 10th that it will launch a convenience meal, ‘Alkkomak Kkakdugi Fried Rice.’ Following its existing meal kit products, the company plans to actively target the convenience food market by releasing frozen fried rice.
The Alkkomak Kkakdugi Fried Rice, unveiled on the 11th, features Fresh Easy’s signature side dish product, ‘Badahyang Komakjang’ (Sea-flavored Cockle Sauce). Fresh Easy produces a total of 500 products across six categories including meal kits, salads, processed meat, sauces, retort foods, and side dishes. The Badahyang Komakjang, launched in June last year, recorded cumulative orders of 1.35 million units on GS Home Shopping and ranked first in the GS SHOP food new product category in 2019.
The Alkkomak Kkakdugi Fried Rice combines cockles caught in Beolgyo, Namhae, with crunchy domestic kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi). The product adds a special soy sauce to perfectly cooked rice to enhance umami flavor. It offers the chewy texture of Beolgyo cockles and a rich sea aroma, and as a frozen product, it can be stored for a long time. Additionally, it can be cooked quickly in 3 minutes and 30 seconds using a frying pan or microwave.

Fresh Easy has invested 70 billion KRW in a newly completed 8,000-pyeong (approx. 26,446 sq. meters) fresh home meal replacement (HMR) specialized factory in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and is releasing various types of refrigerated and frozen convenience food products based on its production capabilities. Starting with the launch of the next-generation meal kit ‘the EASY Meal Kit’ on the 1st, which halves cooking time and price compared to existing meal kits, the company plans to strengthen its position in the convenience food market as a comprehensive food company by releasing this frozen rice product.
