LG Electronics explained that the name Magnit signifies the product’s outstanding brightness and astonishing image quality. It is a coined term combining 'magnificent,' meaning 'impressive,' and 'nit,' the unit of luminance indicating brightness per unit area of a light source.
Micro LED signage is a self-emissive display product that directly attaches ultra-small LED elements onto the screen substrate. It is a more advanced technology than conventional LED signage, which packages LED elements before attaching them to the substrate, offering bright and clear image quality and wide viewing angles.
LG Electronics applied its proprietary 'front black coating' technology on the surface of LG Magnit. This technology enables deeper blacks compared to existing LED signage. It maximizes contrast ratio and enhances the color accuracy of LED elements, achieving overwhelming image quality.
This technology also improves product durability and reduces the direct impact on LED elements from moisture, dust, and external shocks. It decreases external light reflection, allowing users to enjoy clear content. The product is equipped with an artificial intelligence (AI) processor, which integrates LG TV’s image quality technology to analyze original content autonomously and implement optimal image quality by itself.
In addition to ultra-high definition, installation convenience has been enhanced. The cabinet (the basic unit of LED signage with embedded LED elements) measures 600 mm in width, 337.5 mm in height, and 44.9 mm in thickness, and can be easily connected like Lego blocks to create the desired size for customers.
Equipped with 'contactless connector' technology that wirelessly transmits signals between adjacent cabinets, it enables a large screen without connecting separate cables between cabinets. After installing the desired size, customers only need to connect the signal transmission/reception and power supply cables to the bottom-most cabinet. The pixel pitch is 0.9 mm. The closer the pixel pitch, the higher the resolution achievable in the same area, displaying content more vividly.
LG Magnit’s ultra-high definition, screen expandability, and installation convenience make it suitable for various commercial spaces such as large conference rooms, lobbies, premium stores, exhibition halls, and broadcasting stations.
Meanwhile, market research firm Omdia predicted that micro LED display shipments will surge from 800 units this year to 2.64 million units in 2023 and 15.5 million units in 2026.
