Two Senior Officials of Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Placed on Leave Over Allegations of Sexual Assault Against Defector Woman
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] It has been confirmed that two senior officials of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the higher authority, have been placed on standby in connection with allegations that a police officer from the Seocho Police Station in Seoul, who was in charge of protecting the personal safety of North Korean defectors, sexually assaulted a North Korean defector woman.
The police announced on the 8th that a chief inspector (Senior Superintendent) and a section chief (Superintendent) belonging to the Security Department of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency have been placed on standby.
The police are reportedly examining whether they properly handled the case after receiving the report. The police plan to decide on the final measures after the investigation results are out.

Ms. A, a North Korean defector woman, recently filed a complaint against Inspector B of the Seocho Police Station, alleging that she was sexually assaulted by him about ten times over a period of one year and seven months starting from May 2016. Inspector B has countersued Ms. A for false accusation and defamation by spreading false information.
