Gangbuk-gu Initiates Disaster Response Measures in Preparation for Typhoon 'Haishen'
Emergency On-Site Inspection of Flood and Wind Disaster Vulnerable Facilities, Removal and Maintenance of Risk Factors... Strengthening Real-Time On-Site Emergency Response System Amid Successive Typhoon Approaches
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Gyeom-su) conducted an emergency on-site inspection of disaster-vulnerable facilities in preparation for the approach of Typhoon No. 10, ‘Haishen’.
First, the district took measures to prevent disaster accidents that could occur due to weakened ground caused by prolonged rainfall. Surveillance has been strengthened mainly in areas at risk of landslides, slope collapses, and low-lying flood-prone zones. The readiness of flood control equipment such as pumps and sandbags was also thoroughly checked for emergency recovery from heavy rain. The management status of rainwater inlets, sewage pipelines, and pumping stations was carefully reviewed, and road lighting facilities were inspected as well.
Additionally, the district is carrying out maintenance of facilities that may be damaged by strong winds. Wall surfaces, protruding signs, and banners were inspected, and hazardous advertisements at risk of falling or toppling were removed. Together with experts such as architectural structural engineers, the condition of aging retaining walls and construction site management was closely monitored. Construction companies were instructed to remove wind-vulnerable protective screens and reinforce soundproof panels to prepare for any emergencies.
Furthermore, the district checked the fastening status of facilities such as traffic signs that could cause secondary damage if blown away by strong winds and reinforced tree supports. Administrative efforts will focus on minimizing damage by maintaining a real-time response system until the typhoon situation ends.
