Gwangju City Selected for Korea-style Digital New Deal 'Quantum Cryptography Communication Construction Project'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 6th that it has been selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Information Society Agency’s “Quantum Cryptography Communication Pilot Infrastructure Construction and Operation” project, jointly applied with SK Broadband, and will establish a secure data distribution infrastructure in the public sector.
This project will invest 1.8 billion KRW of national funds to establish a quantum cryptography communication network linking the 119 Emergency Situation Room, CCTV Control Center, and Traffic Information Center, aiming to enhance camera video network security and system smartization by the end of this year.
Quantum cryptography communication is a physical security system that generates eavesdropping-proof encryption keys using quantum properties. It is an essential technology industry for building safety networks in various fields where security is critical due to hacking and eavesdropping risks, such as autonomous vehicles, financial data, mobile, and military sectors, as well as fostering new industries in the 4th Industrial Revolution.
Since the 7th local government term, Gwangju City has actively promoted the development of core quantum-related technologies and the nurturing of related companies by supporting marketing for quantum cryptography communication companies in the Gwangju area and advancing the quantum test network construction project for commercial product demonstration.
With the establishment of the quantum cryptography communication test network through this project, it is expected to serve as a stepping stone for revitalizing product marketing of local quantum information communication companies, securing competitiveness of the domestic quantum industry, and positioning Gwangju as a mecca for fostering the quantum information communication industry.
