CJ Olive Young Launches 'Girl Education Supporters'
Full-Scale Launch of Domestic Support Project for Aging-Out Children, 1st Online Inauguration Ceremony of 'Olive Young Girl Education Supporters' Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] CJ Olive Young is launching its first-ever university student supporters program for social contribution activities, marking the full-scale start of its domestic support project for youth aging out of protective care.
CJ Olive Young announced on the 6th that it held the inauguration ceremony for the 1st class of the "Olive Young Girl Education Supporters," a program supporting youth aging out of protective care in collaboration with the social welfare foundation Children and Future Foundation.
Youth aging out of protective care are adolescents who must leave childcare facilities upon turning 18 under the Child Welfare Act. There has been a growing social issue emphasizing the need not only to dispel prejudices against these young people entering society but also to support their independence.
In June, CJ Olive Young donated 40 million KRW to the Children and Future Foundation and will provide educational supplies to approximately 200 high school seniors living in child welfare facilities in the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions starting from the 7th. Additionally, through the university student supporters, CJ Olive Young is rolling up its sleeves to actively support youth aging out of protective care domestically.
The inaugural "Olive Young Girl Education Supporters" 1st class, launched this year, consists of 16 university students selected through document screening and interviews, along with 4 youth aging out of protective care. Each team is composed of 4 university students and 1 youth aging out of care, and they will carry out various activities such as producing videos to improve awareness of youth aging out of protective care until December.
The inauguration ceremony held on the 5th was conducted using the online video conferencing system (ZOOM) to practice social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event proceeded with a welcome speech from the supporters’ coordinator, an introduction to the Girl Education project and supporters’ activities, recreational activities for team bonding, and educational sessions to help understand youth aging out of protective care.
At the online inauguration ceremony, the supporters who met for the first time gained an understanding of CJ Olive Young’s representative social contribution activities, including the "UNESCO Girl Education Campaign," and formed a consensus on improving awareness of youth aging out of protective care, strengthening their commitment to future activities.
