COVID-19 Recoverees Can Donate Plasma at Jeju 'Heonhyeol House'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] COVID-19 recovered patients will now be able to donate plasma necessary for the development of plasma therapy not only in the Chungcheong, Gyeongsang, and Jeolla regions but also in Jeju Island.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 5th, "Starting from the 7th of this month, plasma donations for the development of COVID-19 plasma therapy can be made at 25 Blood Donation Centers in the Chungcheong, Gyeongsang, Jeolla, and Jeju areas."
Plasma therapy is a preparation concentrated with antibodies and immunoglobulins contained in the blood of patients who have recovered from COVID-19. Securing as much plasma as possible helps in the development of the therapy.
According to the CDCH, a total of 2,634 recovered patients have expressed their willingness to donate plasma as of this day, of which 1,936 have completed the donation. Plasma donation is only possible for recovered patients aged 18 to under 65 who have been released from isolation for more than 14 days.
However, until now, plasma donation was only possible at four medical institutions, which raised concerns about accessibility. In response, the health authorities allowed plasma donations at 21 Blood Donation Centers in the metropolitan and Gangwon areas starting from the 24th of last month, and have now increased the number by 25 more centers.
In the Chungcheong region, donors can use five Blood Donation Centers: Chungju Center, Chungbuk National University Center, Cheonan City Hall Center, Daejeon Complex Terminal Center, and Kongju National University Center.
In the Gyeongsang region, there are 17 centers including Daegu National University Center, Kyungpook National University North Gate Center, Daegu Health College Center, Dongsung-ro Plaza Center, Dongsung-ro Center, Jungang-ro Center, 2.28 Memorial Central Park Center, Pohang Center, Gumi Center, Andong Center, Deokcheon Center, Seomyeon-ro Center, Haeundae Center, Ulsan Blood Center, Jinju Center, Changwon Center, and Gimhae Center.
