Medical Staff Support 'Handwritten Letters' Continue at Gwangju Dong-gu Health Center
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, with medical staff at screening clinics sweating day after day, heartfelt letters from students and residents have been continuously bringing quiet inspiration to the screening clinic at Dong-gu Public Health Center in Gwangju Metropolitan City.
Despite the heatwave, the residents' support and encouragement have become the greatest gift to the medical staff at the screening clinic, who are battling infectious diseases fully armored in protective suits.
According to Dong-gu on the 4th, a Chosun University student who visited the Dong-gu Public Health Center screening clinic last month delivered a letter and snacks.
The letter from this student contained a message of encouragement, saying, "I will always remember how valuable the sweat you are shedding now is."
Earlier in June, students from the '119 Youth Corps' club at Chosun University High School, who aspire to become nurses, also visited. They expressed their gratitude by delivering handwritten letters and homemade lunchboxes to the medical staff working hard against COVID-19 and the heat.
Since the Dong-gu screening clinic began operating in February this year, visits of encouragement from residents have continued steadily until recently.
Many residents quietly hand over energy drinks and notes, and even students living in other districts come holding support placards and perform, with these messages of encouragement providing great strength to the medical staff.
Im Taek, head of Dong-gu, said, "At this difficult time for everyone due to COVID-19, the warm encouragement from residents will be a great source of strength for the screening clinic medical staff," adding, "We will continue to do our best to prevent the spread of infection in the community until COVID-19 is eradicated."

Meanwhile, Dong-gu has established an all-out emergency response system to prevent the resurgence of COVID-19. The Dong-gu Public Health Center is making every effort to prevent community cluster infections by operating the screening clinic 24 hours a day, running a night call center, monitoring those under self-quarantine, and conducting disinfection.
