View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Among the 25 autonomous districts in Seoul, Seongbuk-gu recorded the highest number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), exceeding five times the number in Jung-gu, which had the fewest cases. When considering the population size of each district, Seongbuk-gu also had the highest incidence rate, more than twice that of Gwangjin-gu, which had the lowest rate.
According to the COVID-19 status analysis data from the Seoul Public Health Medical Foundation on the 4th, as of midnight on the 2nd, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Seoul was 4,062, with an incidence rate of 41.79 cases per 100,000 people based on the 2020 administrative district resident registration population.
Among the 25 autonomous districts in Seoul, Seongbuk-gu had the highest incidence rate at 64.28 cases per 100,000 people. This was followed by Gwanak-gu at 51.63, Dongjak-gu at 45.55, Nowon-gu at 45.38, and Jongno-gu at 45.22. Yongsan-gu (44.02), Dobong-gu (42.48), Jung-gu (40.45), Songpa-gu (38.87), and Eunpyeong-gu (38.79) also ranked within the top 10 for incidence rates.
Districts with relatively high incidence rates were places where large-scale group infections occurred or where many related infections were reported.
Seongbuk-gu had 112 confirmed cases related to churches, including 103 linked to Sarang Jeil Church. The total number of confirmed cases in Seongbuk-gu was 284, accounting for 7.0% of all cases in Seoul.
In Songpa-gu, there were 33 confirmed cases related to Sarang Jeil Church and 15 related to Uri Jeil Church in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do. Nowon-gu had 76 cases linked to Sarang Jeil Church and 14 related to Bitgaon Church. Gwanak-gu was significantly affected by infections from the door-to-door sales company Richway and Wangseong Church and Manmin Central Church, while Gangseo-gu had 26 cases related to hospitals and nursing homes.
Other districts' incidence rates were as follows: Jungnang-gu (38.28), Yeongdeungpo-gu (38.03), Gangbuk-gu (37.85), Gangseo-gu (37.65), Guro-gu (37.28), Gangnam-gu (35.66), Dongdaemun-gu (35.59), Mapo-gu (35.26), Seocho-gu (33.57), and Yangcheon-gu (32.97).
Conversely, the district with the lowest incidence rate was Gwangjin-gu (27.75), followed by Seodaemun-gu (30.38), Seongdong-gu (30.60), Gangdong-gu (31.72), and Geumcheon-gu (32.72), which were relatively low.
Meanwhile, as of this day, the main infection routes for COVID-19 confirmed cases in Seoul were religious facilities at 25.3% (1,028 cases), local cluster outbreaks through small gatherings at 16.3% (663 cases), overseas inflow at 9.7% (392 cases), hospitals and nursing homes at 4.0% (163 cases), Itaewon club-related at 3.4% (139 cases), Richway-related at 2.9% (119 cases), and Guro call center-related at 2.4% (98 cases). Cases with unknown infection routes accounted for 15.8% (641 cases).
Among the confirmed cases, females accounted for 54.2% (2,200 cases), outnumbering males, and the average age of confirmed cases was 47.9 years (median age 50, range 1?99 years), with those in their 20s to 50s making up 60.2%.
