KHNP announced on the 4th that President Jeong visited Prague, Czech Republic, on the 2nd (local time) and expressed his intention to participate in the year-end bidding to the Czech government and the ordering company.
Earlier, the Czech side notified KHNP in July of the finalized supply model for the new nuclear power plant project and the future project schedule. They formalized the project plan for nuclear power plant construction and plan to issue the bid invitation by the end of this year.
On the 2nd, President Jeong met with Jaroslav Mil, the chief nuclear envoy and overall manager of the Czech new nuclear power plant project, and executives of CEZ (Czech Electricity Company) to discuss cooperation plans between Korea and the Czech Republic in the nuclear power sector, including the new nuclear power plant project.
He then visited the Czech Parliament, where he informed members of the Nuclear Energy Committee and the chairman of the Korea-Czech Parliamentary Friendship Association about Korea’s excellent nuclear technology and safety, expressing his commitment to participate in the Czech project.
President Jeong’s visit to the Czech Republic was arranged following a video conference last month between Sung Yun-mo, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea, and the Czech Minister of Industry and the nuclear envoy. It served as an opportunity to consecutively convey the strong commitment of the Korean government and KHNP to participate in the project.
