Since Liberation Day last month, the daily number of confirmed cases in Daegu, which had surged up to 30 due to regional transmission from the Seoul metropolitan area and a cluster infection at Sarang Church in Dong-gu, has decreased to 3 on the 3rd (as of midnight), following 5 cases the previous day. However, as people in their 60s and 70s have been consecutively confirmed positive after a functional food promotional briefing held in an underground building in Buk-gu, the quarantine authorities are maintaining vigilance by securing the list of participants.
According to Daegu City, as of midnight on the 3rd, 2 confirmed cases were identified in Daegu the previous day: one elementary school student and one person in their 60s. There was also one imported case from Algeria. As a result, the total number of COVID-19 patients in Daegu as of midnight on that day was 7,065, an increase of 3 from the previous day.
Among the confirmed cases, a 2nd-grade student, A, at Saeron Elementary School located in the Innovation City of Dong-gu, tested positive after being classified as a close contact when her grandfather living in Seoul was confirmed positive. A’s father, who was tested together, received a negative result. Saeron Elementary School, which operates on a biweekly class schedule, decided to switch to remote classes on the 3rd. The quarantine authorities conducted urgent tests on 26 students and staff who might have had contact with A, all of whom tested negative.
A man in his 70s residing in Buk-gu was confirmed positive after being tested on the 2nd due to fever symptoms. It was found that he had attended a functional food promotional briefing organized by a woman in her 60s living in Nam-gu, who was confirmed positive the day before.
The quarantine authorities confirmed that the woman in her 60s held a Cordyceps-related briefing on the basement first floor of Dongwoo Building in Buk-gu on the 29th of last month, and they are securing the list of participants to enforce self-quarantine and conduct specimen tests. It was also investigated that she had contact with a confirmed case who attended the Gwanghwamun rally during her visit to Seoul on the 26th and 27th of last month.
Additionally, a man in his 60s residing in Buk-gu who arrived from Algeria on the 1st was notified of a positive COVID-19 test result on the 2nd after being tested at the Dongdaegu Station walk-through testing site.
