Suwon City Files Complaints Against COVID-19 Self-Quarantine Violators
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has reported Mr. A to the local police station for unauthorized departure from his quarantine location during the self-isolation period.
Suwon City announced on the 3rd that Mr. A, who was ordered to self-isolate from the 25th of last month to the 4th of this month, was unreachable, prompting a report to the police on the 1st. On the 2nd, unauthorized departure was confirmed, and Mr. A was reported under the "Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act."
It was found that Mr. A visited a local mart on the 29th of last month, and on the 31st, he visited the mart and took a walk with his friend Mr. B, who had come to his house. Mr. B stayed at Mr. A’s house from the 31st of last month until 11:50 a.m. on the 1st of this month. Afterwards, Mr. A drove Mr. B to his home, talked with him inside the car, and returned home around 2 p.m. the same day.
A city official stated, "We have filed a criminal complaint based on a zero-tolerance policy," and warned, "We will strongly respond to individual violations that threaten community safety and health."
Since April 1st, the city has formed a legal response team for 'self-isolation violators' and is taking strong measures against those who violate self-isolation orders.
If a person violates self-isolation without a valid reason, evidence is collected and, after legal review, the individual is reported to the local police station.

According to infectious disease-related laws and guidelines from the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, domestic violators of self-isolation are subject to zero-tolerance prosecution, and foreigners may be subject to deportation. The "Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act" stipulates that those who violate self-isolation may face imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won.
