According to the city, in Bongnim-dong, Uichang-gu, where a heavy rain advisory was issued on the 30th, 57.5mm of rain fell per hour, causing partial flooding of houses in nearby Banji-dong and water accumulation in Palyong 2nd Underpass, resulting in various damages. Accordingly, Mayor Heo Seong-mu visited the site that day to inspect the damaged stores and facilities.
Regarding this, Mayor Heo stated the need to improve urban disaster prevention performance and to promptly prepare countermeasures suitable for the city’s circumstances, such as reorganizing management manuals for facilities including underpasses.
Mayor Heo added, “Typhoon No. 9 ‘Maysak,’ currently moving northward, is accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds, and its path is similar to that of Typhoon ‘Maemi’ which occurred in 2003,” emphasizing, “Thorough preparation is necessary to avoid experiencing past hardships again.”
He continued, “Especially since social distancing level 2 is being implemented due to COVID-19, and confirmed cases have occurred in the city, we will thoroughly manage facilities to prevent citizens’ suffering from being worsened by typhoon damage.”
