View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] On the 31st, 248 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) were identified in South Korea. This is 51 fewer than the 299 cases reported the previous day, maintaining the number in the 200s for two consecutive days.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (CDSCH) for COVID-19, as of midnight on that day, there were 238 locally transmitted cases and 10 imported cases. The total number of confirmed cases increased to 19,947.
Among the local transmissions, 91 cases were reported in Seoul, 79 in Gyeonggi, and 13 in Incheon, totaling 183 cases in the metropolitan area. Outside the metropolitan area, 9 cases each were reported in Chungnam and Gwangju, 6 in Daejeon, 5 each in Ulsan, Jeonnam, and Jeju, 4 each in Busan and Daegu, 3 in Gangwon, 2 in Gyeongbuk, and 1 each in Sejong, Jeonbuk, and Gyeongnam, with confirmed cases occurring in 16 provinces and cities excluding Chungbuk. The imported cases came from Russia (2 cases), and one case each from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Oman, Germany, the United Kingdom, Turkey, the United States, and Brazil.

The number of patients who have been declared recovered and released from isolation increased by 70 from the previous day to 14,973. Currently, there are 79 severe or critical patients, an increase of 9 from the previous day. Among previously confirmed patients, one person died, raising the total death toll from 323 to 324.
