Kim Mikyung, Eunpyeong District Mayor, Inspects Site of Woori Disabled Welfare Center Construction
Our Disability Welfare Center to be Completed in September... High Expectations as a 'Community-Friendly Building' for Local Residents
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] “Please ensure thorough consideration for people with disabilities and the completion of a community-friendly building.”
On the 26th, Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong District, visited the construction site of the long-awaited Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Disabled in Eunpyeong to emphasize “consideration for people with disabilities.”
The construction project of the Uri Disabled Welfare Center, which began in December 2018, has finally borne fruit despite initial opposition from some local residents. The center is scheduled to be completed by the end of September and opened in November.
Mayor Kim Mi-kyung’s site inspection was held to discuss the final inspection items ahead of the completion of the Uri Disabled Welfare Center and to ensure a successful opening of the welfare center.
In particular, the keywords “consideration for people with disabilities” and “community-friendly building” were highlighted.
In fact, the Uri Disabled Welfare Center, which has the vision of “thinking and growing together with people with disabilities,” is equipped with various cultural facilities for people with disabilities.
Additionally, due to the recent impact of COVID-19, facilities such as a studio have been installed to support non-face-to-face services.
Along with this, to focus on communication with local community neighbors, a fitness room and a caf? have been created to promote interaction between the welfare center and residents. The Uri Disabled Welfare Center building was constructed by the social welfare corporation Good People Uri Welfare Foundation and donated to Eunpyeong District, which provided the site and construction support.
Eunpyeong District has the third highest number of registered people with disabilities in Seoul, with approximately 21,758 registered individuals, but only the Western Comprehensive Welfare Center for the Disabled exists, leading to overcrowding issues and ongoing demands for improved treatment.
The newly constructed Uri Disabled Welfare Center will be built on a 1,662㎡ site with a total floor area of 2,927㎡, spanning from one basement floor to four above-ground floors. It is expected to greatly contribute to the enhancement of welfare for people with disabilities through the operation of rehabilitation services and convenience facilities, as well as state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
Furthermore, it is anticipated to help raise pride among people with disabilities as members of the community.
