Pompeo: "Trump Negotiates with North Korea... America's Freedom Secured"
Emphasis on Hardline Populist Approach
Also Weight on Pro-Israel Policy
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Mike Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of State, emphasized in a video message at the Republican National Convention that President Donald Trump engaged in dialogue with North Korea to halt missile tests and ensured the safety of Americans.
Secretary Pompeo appeared in a video recorded during his trip to Jerusalem, Israel, at the Republican National Convention held on the 25th (local time).
In most of his speech, Secretary Pompeo highlighted that President Trump confronted external enemies for the safety of Americans and brought home detained Americans. He argued that President Trump's foreign and security policies improved the safety of the United States and its citizens.
Secretary Pompeo said that President Trump made Americans' freedom safer, stating, "President Trump may not have been popular in every foreign capital, but he was effective."
He also emphasized that President Trump is standing up to the Chinese Communist Party, which was the epicenter of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Secretary Pompeo filmed the video on the rooftop of a hotel with a clear view of the old city during his trip to Jerusalem. Seemingly mindful of the Jewish vote, he recalled that President Trump led the historic normalization negotiations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and moved the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
