Chuseok Holiday Train Tickets Reservation from Next Month 1st to 3rd '100% Non-Face-to-Face'
This year, train ticket reservations for the Chuseok holiday will be conducted exclusively through non-face-to-face methods. Accordingly, Korea Railroad has designated a separate reservation day (the 1st of next month) for seniors and people with disabilities who find online booking difficult, allowing only eligible individuals to book train tickets online and by phone on that day. View original image[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Korea Railroad announced on the 25th that train tickets for the Chuseok holiday period this year will be sold online (non-face-to-face) in advance from the 1st to the 3rd of next month.
However, during the entire reservation period, Korea Railroad has designated the 1st of next month as the reservation day for IT-vulnerable groups such as the disabled and the elderly, and will allocate 10% of all seats preferentially to them.
This measure was prepared for groups that are easily marginalized as train tickets are sold only online without on-site sales. Eligible persons can reserve train tickets for all routes on the reservation day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. via Korea Railroad’s dedicated website or by phone through the railroad customer center.
Those eligible to make reservations on the 1st of next month are seniors aged 65 or older and registered disabled persons under the Welfare of Disabled Persons Act. Korea Railroad limits phone reservations to the first 1,000 people, considering the proportion of customers who cannot use the internet among those who usually wait on-site.
From the 2nd, all citizens, including seniors and disabled persons, can reserve holiday tickets online via PC or mobile devices.
However, the number of tickets purchasable per user is limited to 6 one-way tickets and 12 round-trip tickets (6+6) for online reservations, and 3 one-way tickets and 6 round-trip tickets (3+3) for phone reservations.
The trains available for reservation are KTX, ITX-Saemaeul, Mugunghwa trains, and tourist trains operating from the 29th of next month to October 4th.
The train routes available for reservation by date are divided as follows: ▲ on the 2nd, Gyeongbu, Gyeongjeon, Donghae, and Chungbuk lines ▲ on the 3rd, Honam, Jeolla, Gangneung, Janghang, and Jungang lines.
Tickets reserved online or by phone must be paid for between 3 p.m. on the 3rd and midnight on the 6th of next month. Tickets not paid for will be automatically canceled and allocated to those on the waiting list.
Remaining unsold seats can be purchased like regular tickets starting from 3 p.m. on the 3rd.
For more details, please check the ‘Chuseok Ticket Reservation Dedicated Website’ which will open at 2 p.m. on the 28th.
Korea Railroad CEO Son Byeong-seok said, “Reflecting the serious situation of COVID-19, we decided on 100% online reservations to protect public safety, and we carefully considered support for citizens unfamiliar with IT devices during this process. We ask that family and friends also pay attention and help seniors and disabled persons make reservations.”
