Park Won-soon’s Response from the Ruling Party… Ahn: “Words and Actions Differ” Jin Joong-kwon: “Equality in the Activist Circle Is Symbolic Capital for Advancement”
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Regarding the ruling party's response to the sexual harassment allegations against the late Park Won-soon, former Mayor of Seoul, Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, and Jin Jung-kwon, former professor at Dongyang University, simultaneously criticized that “words and actions were different.”
On the morning of the 23rd, Ahn said in a dialogue with former professor Jin on his YouTube channel, “President Moon Jae-in himself said he is a feminist, and former Governor Ahn Hee-jung of Chungnam Province, former Mayor Oh Keo-don of Busan, and former Mayor Park himself all claimed to have gender sensitivity.”
He added, “A person’s true intentions come from their actions, but looking at their actions so far, it was all lies,” and pointed out, “Isn’t it that everything was only to gain votes in elections and acquire power, and they didn’t consider other values important?”
In response, former professor Jin criticized, “The activists have been shouting for equality, human rights, and women’s liberation while being ideologically indoctrinated for decades, so how can they not change at all?” and said, “The ideology and values these people shouted are, as Ahn said, symbolic capital for their own advancement.”
He emphasized, “I think this incident is the ultimate betrayal so far,” and added, “I highly regard former Mayor Park, but there was no apology to the victim in his suicide note. That was my biggest disappointment. There was no acknowledgment or apology.”
Regarding recent issues with civic groups such as the Justice and Memory Foundation (Jeonguiyeondae), Ahn said, “Civic groups are supposed to properly monitor the living power, but now they have changed from Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) to Near Government Organizations (NGOs).” Former professor Jin also added, “All the civic groups that should fairly judge which side did well or poorly have disappeared.”
In the continued dialogue, Ahn criticized the Moon Jae-in administration’s real estate policy, saying, “They do not have the ability to properly manage the economy. There needs to be accountability for those responsible,” and added, “The Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport should no longer be in charge of real estate policy.” He said, “I think it would be more effective to have the Deputy Prime Minister for Economy or the Prime Minister coordinate comprehensively with other ministries to present real estate policies.”
