Two Elementary Students in Jeonnam Test Positive for COVID-19 Before Visiting Grandfather's House
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] As COVID-19 cases rapidly spread mainly in Seoul and the metropolitan area, two students from Namak Elementary School in Jeonnam were confirmed as the 56th and 57th COVID-19 cases in the region.
According to the Jeonnam Office of Education on the 21st, two elementary school students, known to be grandsons of a man in his 70s who is the 44th confirmed case in Jindo, tested positive that morning. It is presumed that the students were infected after visiting their grandfather's house in Jindo following the start of their vacation on the 17th.
The grandsons, classified as contacts of the 44th confirmed case, tested negative during the specimen test on the 17th but suddenly developed a fever on the 20th, leading to a second test that confirmed positive results.
They entered self-quarantine immediately after their grandfather was diagnosed. The school they attended is currently on vacation, and the academies were also closed for summer holidays, so there were no contacts reported.
A school official said, "Fortunately, after tracking the movements of the confirmed students, there was no contact with friends," adding, "Currently, all staff members have come to work and are cleaning each classroom while focusing on disinfection."
